Hood's Invasion of Tennessee  E-mail

John Bell Hood takes command of the Confederacy's western army after General Sherman pushes within striking distance of Atlanta.  Hood launches fierce counterattacks against Sherman's army, but all end in failure.  On September  6, 1864, Sherman takes Atlanta.

Knowing that he cannot defeat Sherman;s larger and better-equipped army in a set battle,  Hood decides to strike north into Tennessee and destroy Sherman tenuous supply line.  Sherman moves east on his "March to the Sea" leaving union General George Thomas to deal with Hood's invading army.
